About Us

Welcome to our blog!

This diary is a peak into our monthly adventures as we scour California searching the dusty back roads for small “mom & pop” wineries handcrafting terrific wines.  It’s our mission to connect these award-winning, limited-production wines with wine lovers who would otherwise never discover them.

Along the way, we meet the families who founded the wineries (often on a dream and a shoestring budget), the winemakers who have a passion for quality over quantity and people who simply enjoy the difference handcrafting makes in wines.  We also look for fun restaurants and nice places to stay (hopefully dog-friendly if we have Zinny with us).

How it all began:

For years, Pam and I were frustrated trying to find truly great wine. Selecting a decent bottle of wine from thousands of pretty labels with prices ranging from $5-$35 was difficult at the best of times. We were always happiest with wine recommendations from friends.

So in 1990, we decided to take matters into our own hands and start a wine of the month club that was just like “one friend recommending a great bottle of wine to another friend”.

Now 22 years later, we have the “tough job” of finding and selecting each and every one of the 160 or so limited-production wines that we feature each year in our own “mom & pop” business, The California Wine Club.  www.cawineclub.com. (use promo code: BPB to try a shipment 50% off)

Join us each month on our travels as we explore California’s wine country from top to bottom!

Cheers!

  1. Delightful website! The label “cheatsheet” did not do justice to your nice little summary of Californian wine regions and varieties which do best there. But at least I have something to keep in my wallet when I come to dine in California. A very happy 2014 and good health to you.
